Write a quick review of a book that embodies America for you! Come in for a small bookish prize after you submit it.
Hey teens!
The O’Neal Library is commemorating America’s 250th anniversary by asking patrons to submit a book recommendation for a title that is uniquely American. We are looking for a diverse selection of titles, so feel free to think outside of the box! Your review may be chosen to feature on O'Neal Library's social media sites.
To submit your review, email teens@oneallibrary.org your full name, book title & author, and 2-3 sentences that express why your book recommendation is uniquely American. We appreciate you taking the time to share your recommendation. Once you share it with us, stop by our temporary location at Mountain Brook City Hall for a FREE treat or bookish prize!
Got questions? Email young adult librarians Michelle Cheng and Henry Goff at teens@oneallibrary.org.
Example Book Review(s):
Written by Michelle (librarian) - The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas (2017) is a story that changed my brain chemistry for the better! Starr Carter is an empowering character who witnesses the death of her childhood friend during a police traffic stop and transforms her grief, love, and support from the community into making a change in America. This book embodies the living and growing organism that is our nation America: there will always be more to learn about people, more challenges to overcome, and more to progress to celebrate in our future.
