Mah Jongg Meet Up - now at Mtn Brook Baptist Church!

No registration required for most skill levels.

While the Library is undergoing an interior renovation, we will meet at Mtn Brook Baptist Church at 3631 Montevallo Road -use the Overbrook Road entrance! See full description for more information.

Our O'Neal Library Mah Jongg Meetup group is now in its 3rd year!

We meet just about every Monday from 10AM - Noon to play American style Mah Jongg using the National Mah Jongg League card.

If you are coming to join us for the first time, all you need is your 2026 card. We provide everything else.

A few notes:

We don't play for money (probably wouldn't look great to be playing for money at 10AM on a Monday morning. Especially at the Baptist church HA!).

We don't play with blanks.  We do play with jokers.

We do not save seats or tables for existing groups to play each other. Rather, play is first come, first seated so that you get to play with all different levels of players.

Also? It's just a great way to meet new people, and our folks are so fun.

We love to have new players. In fact, we have a beginner row for you to get practice time with other beginners. 

If you already know how to play Mahjong, you’re welcome to join us for any of our weekly meetups—no registration required! 

FOR BEGINNERS:

If you are new to Mahjong and have never had a lesson but would like to learn, we offer a beginner lesson on the first Monday of each month.Our instructor will explain the tiles and the National Mah Jongg League card as well as the basics of game play.

If you have had ANY kind of lesson and you have **some** idea how to read the card and/or know the tiles YOU DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND THE FIRST MONDAY LESSON. 

In fact, we prefer you join the beginner row so that we can get more true beginners in the lesson. 

Lessons are limited to 12 participants.

After the first Monday of the month lesson /introduction to the tiles and card, beginners play in the beginner row. 

When you register for a lesson, please plan to attend all Monday meetups of that month. After the month of lessons, we hope you will come back and keep playing in the beginner row until you feel comfortable enough to move up.

We have plenty of players who joined us a year or two ago and are now playing at those faster-paced tables. You will get there!!
