It's a great day to support your local library!

Join O'Neal Library's
Teen Advisory Board!

The ONL Teen Advisory Board (TAB) consists of students in grades 7-12 who meet at the library on the first Monday or Tuesday of the month at 4:30PM. Teens meet to improve the O'Neal Library by providing feedback to the librarians or participating in a service activity.

TAB member benefits include priority notification of volunteer opportunities, special team-building events, summer internship opportunities, free food, and more! Complete the application below to become a member.

If you have any questions, email our young adult librarian Michelle Cheng at teens@oneallibrary.org. The next Teen Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 2 from 4:30-6:00.

Become a Weekly Teen Volunteer

in Spring 2026!

Applications for weekly volunteers in Spring 2026 are OFFICIALLY OPEN! We're looking for responsible and creative local teens to assist in a mix of routine and special tasks at the library.

Step 1: Complete the fillable PDF volunteer application.
Save the file as "[Last Name, First Initial]_ONLTeenWeekly_SP26."
Example: Jane Doe would save the file as "DoeJ_ONLTeenWeekly_SP26"
Step 2: Send a volunteer interest email to teens@oneallibrary.org. Don't forget to attach the completed PDF volunteer application!

Minimum Criteria:
  • Teen Volunteer Applicant MUST be in Grades 7th-12th.
  • Applicant or their parent/guardian MUST have a JCLC library card.
    • Don't have a library card? It's free and easy to get one! CLICK HERE to complete the online library card application.
  • Applicant MUST understand basic alphabetical (ABCs) and numerical (decimals) organization systems.
  • Applicant MUST be committed to a consistent schedule for one semester. We will seek other eager volunteers after 3 (THREE) consecutive absences or 5 (FIVE) total absences in a semester.
Weekly teen volunteers will be scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Schedules must align with current volunteer shift availability. Tasks will vary every shift! Spring 2026 weekly volunteers will begin the week of February 2, 2026 and end on May 15, 2026.
We will accept Spring 2026 applications starting on
January 6, 2026.

UPDATE Jan 8, 2026: We are accepting weekly volunteers on Monday-Saturday afternoons.

Short-Term Teen Volunteer Application Process

Need only 4-8 service hours for your club/organization? We have small projects teens can complete throughout the year. This volunteer option is great for teens in Beta Club, Scouts of America, or the National Honors Society.

Step 1: Complete the fillable PDF volunteer application.
Save the file as "[Last Name, First Initial]_ONLTeenWeekly_SP26."
Example: Jane Doe would save the file as "DoeJ_ONLTeenShort_SP26"
Step 2: Send a volunteer interest email to teens@oneallibrary.org anytime between January 6-May 1, 2026. Don't forget to attach the completed PDF volunteer application!

We recommend short-term volunteering for teens who need fewer than 15 hours of service time and can’t commit to weekly volunteer work over multiple months. Short-term volunteers may not request more than 15 hours of volunteering and must complete their requested hours no later than one calendar month after beginning volunteer work.

Applicants for short-term volunteer opportunities MUST meet the minimum criteria listed above in yellow. The maximum number of hours O'Neal Library can schedule a teen volunteer is 2 (TWO) hours/day, so please adjust your schedule to match. The earlier you request a project, the better! We may reject end-of-semester or end-of-school-year requests if the demand of service hours exceeds the number of projects remaining.

Got questions? Contact Michelle Cheng, O'Neal's Young Adult Librarian! Email teens@oneallibrary.org or call 205-445-1157. Please give her 2-3 business days to respond.
