Show off your talents! Win a $100 VISA Gift Card!

The O'Neal Library in Mountain Brook hosts a Creativity Contest every summer for teens rising to grades 7-12. We welcome many forms of creativity! In the past 10 years we've received paintings, drawings, songs, stop-motion short films, essays, poetry, iron sculptures, graphic novels, and even video games! If you made it, then Mountain Brook wants to see it!

How to Enter the O'Neal Library Teen Creativity Contest:

All participants in the O'Neal Library's Teen Creativity Contest MUST meet the following requirements:

  • You are entering 7th-12th Grade in the 2024-2025 school year.
  • You or your parent/guardian have an activated Jefferson County Library Cooperative card.
    • Did you know JCLC library cards are FREE? CLICK HERE to learn how you can receive a library card today.

Participants may only submit ONE (1) project in the contest, so choose your best work!

Projects will be organized and displayed in one of four (4) categories:

Creative Writing

Submit any genre of creative writing: poetry, short story, flash fiction, film script, etc. While each genre is unique, the writing submissions will be judged on overall quality and popular vote.

Eclectic Art

Creativity comes in many forms, and this category is for the most out-of-the-box submissions! Examples of eclectic art include (but are not limited to) costumes, video games, digital artwork, and more.

Media Art

All music, film/video submissions will fall under this category. The O'Neal Library recognizes these are unique fine arts, but they will be shared to the community on one (1) tablet or laptop.

Visual Art

Submit a drawing, painting, photograph, sculpture, fiber art, and other art that can be physically and visually appreciated at the library. Don't forget to sign your latest creative masterpiece.

Projects can be submitted in-person OR through file upload. Please follow the instructions carefully:

In-Person Submission

File Upload Submission

The 2024 Creativity Contest submission period has now ended.

All Teen Creativity Contest submissions in-person and through file upload are FINAL. Projects will be displayed near the 2nd Floor Reference Desk at the O'Neal Library. Community members can admire and vote for their favorite ones on August 7-28. Winners of each category will be announced on Friday, August 30, 2024 on this website.

The O'Neal Library Creativity Contest values originality. Plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification from the 2024 contest. Former winners of the Teen Creativity Contest may NOT reuse artwork from previous years.
