Michelle Cheng

Library Assistant, Young Adult Department

I graduated from the Alabama School of Fine Arts in 2016 with music/cello honors and earned my BA in English Literature from UAB in 2020. I am currently studying at the University of Alabama's School of Library & Information Studies to acquire my Masters in Library and Information Sciences.

I grew up in Birmingham, and my family visited the O'Neal Library for books, programs, and resources frequently when I was a child. I started working as a library page in 2016 before becoming a library assistant in 2018. My library responsibilities include cultivating the Young Adult print & digital collection and planing programs for teens in grades 7-12.

The O’Neal Library's Teen Advisory Board plays a huge role in bringing teens to the building. Some of the best programs came from TAB's ideas: Library Loot Book Club, DIY Yums food programs, and the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Student Debt financial literacy and college readiness program series.

When I am not at the library, I sometimes work as a freelance amateur cellist in Birmingham. My other hobbies include cross-stitching, embroidery, knitting, watching animated movies and shows, eating delicious food, and journaling.
