Library Assistant II, Circulation

Bert practiced law for twenty five years in Bessemer, Alabama, after which time he decided he was in a rut. And what a stodgy rut it was. Naturally, he did what anyone craving a life of high adventure and exoticism would do: he got a Masters Degree in Library Science. He joined the O’Neal Library’s Circulation department in 2016 and recently, to his great delight, became a full-time employee.

His personal library of films, books and music rivals that of O’Neal’s collection though it must be said that he is given to exaggeration. Still, it’s an enormous accumulation of many wondrous things. His passions include James Joyce, Herman Melville, Billie Holiday, the Baltimore Orioles, Stravinsky, the Beatles, anything to do with the Apollo Program and fish and chips. He has a son who is twenty-one years old and excels in music in a way that he never did. He has also been known to tear up during episodes of The Donna Reed Show. But don’t tell anyone.
